Frequently Asked Questions. Professional DEFRA-registered horse transport across Cheshire & the UK. At On Point Equine Transport, we specialise in safe, calm, professional horse transport for every type of journey - Purchase and sales, yard changes, vet visits, competitions and more. Below you’ll find answers to the questions we’re asked most often, helping you feel confident that your horse is travelling with a fully qualified, insured and experienced transporter.
🚚 Registration, Licensing & Legal Requirements. Are you registered with DEFRA as a horse transporter? Yes. On Point Equine Transport is fully registered with DEFRA as a Type 1 horse transporter (up to 8 hours) and we hold a Certificate in Animal Transport. All documentation is carried on board at all times and available on request.
Do I need my horse’s passport to travel? Yes - by law, your horse’s passport must accompany them whenever they are transported. We cannot accept a horse without its passport unless it is travelling for emergency veterinary treatment. For more official information, visit: ➡️ Horse Passport Agency: www.horsepassportagency.co.uk
🐴 Horse Care, Safety & Biosecurity Should I provide my own hay? Yes, this helps maintain good biosecurity and ensures your horse eats the hay they are used to. If you use one of our haynets, please note they are always fully disinfected after use.
My horse doesn’t have travel boots. Do you supply them? No - many boots slip if they’re not the perfect fit, which can cause stress or injury. For safety reasons, we ask owners to use their own boots if they choose to.
What if my horse will not load? It’s completely normal for some horses to be reluctant. We use: Calm handling, along with lots of patience and low-stress loading methods. We are usually successful but in rare cases a vet may need to attend to sedate the horse so as to minimize any stress. If you know loading may be an issue, please let us know so we can allow extra time and we are always happy to discuss this over the phone.
Travelling With Us. Can I travel in the horsebox? Yes - over 18s only, unless accompanied by an adult. Passengers travel at their own risk.
Will you bring my horse’s belongings too? Yes - we know that horses can come with a large wardrobe, however due to weight limits, belongings are restricted to tack, rugs and smaller items. All items travel at your own risk.
Will I be told when my horse will arrive? Absolutely. You’ll receive an estimated time of arrival, with updates sent whenever it’s safe and legal for us to contact you. Delays can occur due to traffic, but we always keep you informed.
🏥 Vet Visits & Special Situations. My horse needs to go to the vets but I can’t be there, can you help? Of course we can: We can wait at the vets until your horse is ready to return (waiting time may apply), or return later to collect your horse if preferred.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency call outs? Yes, please call us on 07816951298 with the nature of the emergency and the full address of where the horse is including postcode. If the location is hard to find a helpful app/website is what3words giving us your precise location. what3words.com
